Thank you Onemanga.com!!!

Well, this is for onemanga.com. thanks guys!

Are you a manga or anime fan? If not then click here right now! If you are, then this site needs no further introduction.
One Manga has been the place to be for all manga fans worldwide! It has thousands upon thousands of members and readers. It's the best place to go to read manga. And the best of all, they offer all of their services for FREE!! That's right, FREE!!!!

But a tragedy has struck all of its fans. By the end of July 2010 One Manga will be no more (this is where you're supposed to gasp).

According to Zabi of onemanga.com
"
Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it"

Here is the full quote:
"There is an end to everything, to good things as well."

It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that t
hey no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).

So what next? We're not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.

You can also show us some love in this moment of sadness by 'liking' our brand new Facebook page. It would be nice to see just how many of you came to enjoy our 'better than peanut butter and jelly' invention.

Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.

As a certain Porky was fond of saying... That's all folks!

Time for me to go lay down and let this all sink in.

- Zabi

Well some of the questions being raised now is that, "After all these years, why did they change their minds now?" or "Why would they want to do this? It's not like the readers of One Manga are potential buyers of their " (some will point out that most of the readers of One manga don't have manga available to them in their area) and etc.

*****All of these questions and info can be found on One manga's forums

Though I've read through a lot of the comments on this on the  forums site(can't read them all! there are over 3000 comments just on this announcement!), i still can't quite understand all of it.. the most helpful one would be this:

OneManga Website:
Website Worth: $540,054.54
Daily Ads Revenue: $1,241.45
Daily Visits: 372,808
Daily Pageviews: 17,261,020

These are the stats of OneManga.com
(First time i saw this, i was like :O omg!)
Well if its like that then it kinda seems less complicated why they would want to shut down One Manga.. After all, Business is Business..
But one of the only reasons i can think of that will make this situation good for the manga publishers is that if they open their own OneManga-like web site. But that's not probable( or is it?). OneManga holds hundreds of manga(the plural of manga is manga. just a side note lol) from different competing publishers. And opening a site with just their manga will be far less profitable than OneManga in a way that wouldn't even interest big companies.

Another reason would be that they are trying to monopolize the market. But i can't think of anything good to support this reason. Because i don't think that they're sales would boost up as much as this just by closing OneManga. Why? Well for starters most of the one manga readers aren't in their main  market. Their main market are the Japanese (well no duh! manga is written in Japanese) mainly the youth. But the manga posted  in OM are all translated to English. (see my point? not yet? OK, lemme explain). The number of English speakers in Japan isn't all that high. This is because the only ones who have use for English are the ones who work abroad or in international companies. (How do i know this? Besides being a college student I'm also an online English tutor for Japanese students) Hence, they're main market won't be that affected by OM.

I'm rambling on about my opinions like their facts, so if you want to correct me then by all means you are very welcome to do so. I'm no business major (I'm a mathematics major actually). I would really love to know, in a logical and ethical, standpoint why they would want to shut down OM.

Anyways, whatever that reason is, all the fans of OneManga, me included, have decided that this pretty much sucks!

Well so that's pretty much the gist of it..  So if you're manga fanatic who hasn't  had his daily dose of manga yet or some random person who wants to see the best online manga site ever, here's your last chance. As said, OneManga will be online only until the last week of July 2010.

And if you want to support OneManga here's a list of things you can do:

  • Go to www.onemanga.com and read manga til your eyes pop out
  • create a forum account (if you don't already have one)
  • Like OneManga's facebook page
  • say thank you (not goodbye) to OneManga

My message to OneManga(already in the forums):
